Lesson Attire:  For your safety and comfort, lesson students are required to abide by the following dress code.  If you come to a lesson dressed improperly, you will not be permitted to ride.

  • Riders must wear an ASTM/SEI approved riding helmet at all times when mounted.  If you do not own your own helmet, you are welcome to borrow one of ours.

  • Riding boots or paddock boots and half chaps are required when mounted

  • Riders are encouraged to wear form-fitting clothes when possible and tie long hair back or tuck it under their helmet.  Loose-fitting, baggy clothes, and flopping hair make it harder for your instructor to see your posture and riding position during lessons.

  • Closed-toed shoes or boots are required for anyone in the barn area or arena at all times.  This includes riders, parents, siblings, and guests.  Anyone without proper footwear will be asked to leave the barn area.

Cancellation Policy:  Cancellations and/or rescheduling must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson time, or you will be charged for the lesson.  If you are more than 15 minutes late for your lesson, it will be automatically cancelled and you will be charged for the lesson.  Exceptions may be made for emergency situations at the discretion of the instructor.

Weather Policy:  Lessons may be cancelled or rescheduled by Excalibur Horse Center in the case of extreme weather conditions.  If the temperature is over 90 degrees or under 10 degrees, we will call to reschedule at least one hour before your scheduled lesson time.

"We have taken lessons at so many different farms over the years.  Never thought we'd find the perfect place until we came to Excalibur.  We have been made to feel like family there, from day one.  When my daughter wanted to switch from Hunter/Jumper to Western, Kellyn could do it.  When she wanted to go back, Kellyn could do it.  Whatever style she wanted to ride, she could.  Kellyn has the patience of a saint and the knowledge of a true expert.  Sam and everyone at Excalibur have been so accomodating, patient, kind and knowledgable that we know we have finally found "home".  I could never express my thanks for everything they have done for us.  They are simply the best." - Tisha M.

Lessons and Leasing

Whether you are planning to show your horse or you simply like to ride for pleasure, Excalibur Horse Center offers a fun and safe environment in which to grow as a rider.  Our trainers will work with you and your horse to help you reach your goals.  For our students interested in showing, we attend a full schedule of shows including USEF, USEA, TEAM, and schooling shows and events.

We accept riders ages 6 to adult, from advanced beginners on up.  Riders under 6 may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the trainers.  We offer private and small group lessons.  Our program focuses primarily on English jumping disciplines (eventers, hunters, and jumpers) but we also offer lower-level dressage lessons.

If you don't own your own horse, we have experienced school horses available for lessons.  Our lesson program focuses on building confidence and skills both in the saddle and on the ground.  Students are expected to arrive 20-30 minutes early for lessons in order to groom and tack their school horse.  If a rider needs help grooming and tacking their school horse, the first 15 minutes of their lesson will be spent on these skills.

Lesson Prices:

45 minute private lesson: $45

60 minute small group lesson: $30

Pre-paid lesson punch cards are available at a discounted rate.  We offer 5% off a package of 5 lessons and 10% off a package of 10 lessons.  Lesson packages make great gifts for friends and family!

Horse Leasing is available to current EHC students with the approval of the instructor and depending on the availability of school horses.  Leasing is a great option for students who want to spend more time in the saddle but are not ready for horse ownership.  Students who are showing are encouraged to lease to help ensure the horse's availability throughout the show season.

Monthly Lease with Group Lessons: $265/month

Monthly Lease with Private Lessons: $320/month

Your monthly lease includes one weekly lesson, and the horse will be available for your use an additional 2 days each week.  The horse will remain available for use in lessons with other riders on the days when he/she is not being leased.  A horse may be leased by two riders at the same time, in which case riders will have access to the horse on alternating days.  Use of all equipment and facilities as well as the horse's routine vet and farrier care is included in the monthly lease fee.

Practice Ride: $20/one hour ride

Practice rides are a great way for riders to practice between lessons.  Rides must be scheduled and paid for in advance, and are available to students who are taking regular lessons, with instructor approval
